The browser reached the daemon through maestro-web, a second binary that
served the SPA and reverse-proxied /api/* — two TCP connections and a
WebSocket frame re-encode on every keystroke and every byte of PTY output.
On one machine that hop buys nothing.
The daemon now embeds the bundle and serves it off its own listener, behind
a default-on `web` feature. `--no-default-features` builds without pnpm or
node; MAESTRO_WEB_DIST still takes a prebuilt bundle.
The router's fallback answers an unmatched /api/* with 404 rather than the
SPA shell, so a client expecting JSON gets a status it can read instead of
HTML.
Removes maestro-web and the [web] config section. An existing [web] block
is ignored, not rejected. The installer deletes a leftover
maestro-web.service on upgrade.

Draft panes are gone: an empty pane is a placeholder again, and every
spawn affordance opens a dialog around the shared spawn form. Escape,
Cancel, the ✕ and a backdrop click dismiss it; a successful submit puts
the session in a new tab (Spawn similar and the fast-forward fallback
keep placing it beside the pane they acted on).
Removes the per-leaf draft state, its persistence strip, and the form
reuse/teardown machinery the panes needed.

The draft pane covers every field the modal had; the modal was a second
code path for the same job. The header Spawn button, sidebar empty state,
welcome button, and ?mock&spawn now open a draft pane via
MultiView.openDraft — reusing an empty focused pane, else splitting it.
"Spawn similar" seeds a draft with the session's cwd + command.
Modal-only CSS (backdrop, sheet/dialog chrome, keyframes) is deleted;
.modal-body form styling folds into .spawn-form, which also picks up the
select styling the worktree branch picker was borrowing from the modal.
Rewrites CLAUDE.md as the current-architecture reference, drops the
registry from INSTALL/PRODUCT/DESIGN and the web README, deletes the
registry Dockerfile, and marks the dated design specs superseded where
they describe the registry, JWT auth, or cross-host attach.
The installer loses its configure step — every config field now has a
default, so a daemon starts with no config file at all.
Rewrite styles.css as an OKLCH design-system: cool-slate neutrals with a
single committed signal-green for "alive" (running status, primary action,
focus, selection). Monospace becomes the UI typeface; dark is default with a
full light theme via tokens, OS-following with a persisted header toggle.
- catalog: pulsing wordmark, status-bar tally (N sessions / M live) + daemon
chips, color-independent session status (pulsing dot for running, hollow
ring + "exited" badge for dead), reveal-on-hover kill, three teaching
empty states.
- attach: state pill (live/closed/error), framed dark xterm w/ green cursor.
- spawn: bottom-sheet/dialog form, mono inputs with green focus rings.
- a11y: AA contrast both themes, visible focus, prefers-reduced-motion paths,
status never color-only.
- theme.ts: dark/light toggle + persistence; mock.ts: DEV-only review fixture
(?mock / ?mock&spawn / ?theme=), tree-shaken from production builds.

`web/vite.config.ts` was hard-coded to proxy `/api` at
`http://127.0.0.1:8080`, so pointing the dev UI at a remote registry meant
hand-editing the file. Read `MAESTRO_REGISTRY` from the environment via
`loadEnv` instead, with the local default preserved. Accept either the HTTP
base URL (`https://…`) or the daemon-facing URL (`wss://…/daemon`) — the
latter is rewritten to `https://…` and the `/daemon` suffix stripped, since
the proxy needs the HTTP origin. Flips `changeOrigin: true` for HTTPS
upstreams so the proxied Host matches the cert.
Documented under `web/README.md` § Dev.
NAP-218. Browser UI for the prototype: catalog tree derived from
`metadata.label`, live updates over `WS /api/events`, search across
session name+label, spawn modal (with optional git worktree), and an
attach view that opens the daemon's per-session WS for xterm.js.
Framework choice: vanilla TypeScript. The interactivity surface is
small enough that pulling in a framework wouldn't pay back; xterm.js
does the heavy lifting. Easy to swap later without protocol impact.
Hash-based routing (`#/`, `#/attach/<id>`) keeps the registry's
static surface dumb — no SPA fallback needed; concurrent attaches
work by opening the same hash URL in another tab.
